The Lawyer Who Was A Fool

There’s an old saying… “The lawyer that represents himself has a fool for a client.” It applies to law but it can also apply to a doctor who treats themself, an athlete who coaches themself or just about anyone who tries to succeed without assistance, guidance, coaching or mentorship. So yes, I’m applying it to myself as I study online marketing and how to make money online.

It’s not that we are totally dependant on others and incapable of creating success on our own. I think it’s simply that there are a few things we miss out on when we go it alone. Here are a few of them…

Perspective: It’s hard to be objective with ourselves. In fancy-pants psychology circles they call it the “Dunning-Kruger effect”. Basically, the incompetent don’t realize how incompetent they are. We need the perspective of somebody who knows to help us through the learning curve.

Support: Going it alone is tough. When you have a mentor you get a pat on the back when you need it. This helps us to climb through the tough parts of the learning curve. As a bonus, you get a kick in the pants when you need it too. 😉

We don’t know what we don’t know: This is a big one! How do you learn if you’re not sure what to study? How do you find the answers if you don’t even know the questions? The answer is, once again, find somebody who has been there already… Find a mentor.

Since I hate wasting time and energy I decided to follow that advice. I found a mentor who has been extremely successful in building an online business and online marketing. Not only that, he has a proven track record for teaching others the same. His name is John Thornhill.
